Debt Payer’s “Super 7″ Personal Finance Blog Posts of the Week, from around the blog-o-sphere. #1 is the post of the week and the rest are the “best of the rest”, in no particular order.
Personal Finance Post of the Week
1. The Financial Blogger: If Not Now, Then When: The Importance of Taking Action - That’s right, it’s every Yakezie’s favorite “frenemy”, the person whose success and blog network most of us are secretly jealous of: Mr. Financial Blogger, and here he lays out an epic post on how to “take action.” Considering TFB seemingly now owns 37% of the personal finance blogs in the northern hemisphere, this empire builder knows a thing or two about taking action. I have written about similar ideas, but there is certainly something to be gained by someone who literally puts themselves out there, day after day like TFB. Who hasn’t created self-imposed excuses for not pursuing their dreams or business ideas? Read this rallying charge and let’s all go out there and try to do something, starting today! (ok, well perhaps tomorrow, it’s sort of rainy here in the northeast today).
Best of the Rest
2. Sustainable Personal Finance – Recycling Computers and Other Old Stuff – They have a spiffy new logo. They have an Alexa ranking that is now almost lower then the Animal House collective GPA. And they have their stiffest husband-wife blog competition (our previous blog, Broke Professionals) going through a transition. Things are looking good for SPF. This great article on how to stop being a hoarder type and getting rid of your old stuff in an effective manner can only help as they begin to build their own personal finance empire.
3. Mom’s Plans - 11 Programs You May Not Know Your Local Library Offers (but read the post here, at Passive Income) – Book clubs, movie nights, theater productions…and like 8 other things…..Take the red pill and go through the rabbit hole of endless free (albeit perhaps on occasion slightly lame) entertainment. If you have kids and you want to keep a budget then I misquote Hamlet and say, “Get thee to a library!”
4. Squirrelers- Grandparents and Their Wisdom About Money – Respect your elders! And respect this list of what our grandparents may know about money that us “youngens” sometimes forget. (or never knew in the first place, if you ask grandpa). After reading the list I realized I have an old soul when it comes to personal finance. Go see if you do too.
5. Money Cone – 5 Must Watch Money Themed Movies for the Money Mavericks – I am a big movie buff, so combining my love of personal finance with movies is my idea of entertainment. Money Cone got a little grief (even from me) for not including the greed is awesome classic original “Wall Street” on this list, but I think in hindsight that the intent of MC was to highlight less well-known “money movies.” This list offers a few documentaries and perhaps some movies you have never even heard of before. My only regret: that the list wasn’t longer.
6. The Single Saver – Revive Wilted Vegetables – Oh for the love of Bunnicula: bringing back zombiefied celery? I never knew it could be done. The Single Saver does, and she shows how. The best part: it’s crazy simple. Hey, I’m not above it, are you?
7. Life and My Finances – What to do With Your Unexpected Income – Life and My Finances votes to plan before you get the unexpected income. But isn’t that sometimes impossible? I’ll let it go because of the always there high quality of writing.
